Life Before Noon Tip: Be on Time for Sporting Events

Posted on June 12th, 2010 by Dan

If you show up at parties an hour after they start, then you are fashionably late.  If you are running late for happy hour, then everyone assumes that you were so busy and are in such high demand that you just couldn’t possibly get away in time.  If you show up late to a sporting event, then you are a bad fan who doesn’t deserve to be there in the first place.  Sporting events are some of the greatest experiences that one can have.  To disrespect the tradition and walk in late is just plain rude.  Get there in time to tailgate and relax, but have the decency to show up on time and support your team.  Be late for weddings and funerals, not ballgames.

You don’t have to know the line on each game, or even the players on each team, but do know enough about each basketball, baseball, football and hockey so you can contribute to a causal conversation or at least follow the game in person or on television.  Too many times guys try to chime in on a sports topic without any idea of what they are talking about.  Have you ever heard someone at a baseball game ask, “Hey, what quarter is it?” or at a football game ask, “Hey, how many runs do you get for a touchdown?”  Know enough about the sport so you can participate in conversations and be social at the bar or game.

Life Before Noon Tip: Love Your Sports Team

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by Dan

Cowboy up and stick with your team.  Don’t be that guy who cheered for the Bucs back in 2002 and then talked about how horrible they were every year after.  Choosing your team is a very important part of a man’s life.  Your team is, in many ways, like your girl.  Maybe your parents influenced you from a young age and steered toward which team to love.  Maybe you grew up liking the popular team or falling for the team that a certain group of friends liked.  Whatever the reason, be man enough to stay with them through thick and thin.  If you do need to split from them, then do it amicably and promise yourself to never go back to cheering for them again.  Something so egregious must have happened to cause the split.  Always remember how that made you feel and know that you are happier with your new team.
