Unless you are planning the event or know someone who works at the bar, don’t be the first person in the group to show up at a happy hour.  It will look like you are such a loser that this happy hour is the highlight of your week and you were so eager for it that you wanted to be sure to get there first.  Being the last to leave is much more acceptable than being the first to arrive.  If you are the last one to leave, it generally means that you met some new people, hopefully women, and are enjoying their company.

Nothing can make you look like more of an idiot than racking pool balls incorrectly.  Learn the basics: alternate solids and colors, don’t rack the cue (white) ball and keep it tight.  If you don’t, when your buddy goes to break the balls, the balls won’t go anywhere. So, save yourself the embarrassment of another guy having to ask you to step aside so the pool game can finally start while you sit back to sip your Mike’s Hard Lemonade through a straw…

Life Before Noon Tip: Know How to Work a Jukebox

Posted on June 10th, 2010 by Dan

If someone has to come over to the jukebox and show you how to select your song, then you should sit back down at the bar and sip on your Zima with the jolly rancher at the bottom.  Act like a man and learn how to work a jukebox.  How hard is it to select song 1010, Driving and Crying, or Kid Rock on number 2203?  Take requests if you wish, but don’t let someone put some lame song on your rotation because you will end up looking like the doosh.

Even if you only drink beer, try to keep certain liquors on hand at all times.  If people stop by the house you want to make them feel comfortable.  More importantly, if a date comes back to your house and wants to drink to loosen up then you better be sure that you have something she will like.  The two “must-haves” are rum and vodka.  Those two liquors can mix with anything from soda to orange juice and everyone can find something they like, even if it isn’t their favorite.  While you’re at it, be sure to keep inexpensive bottles of red and white wine incase that is beverage of choice for a guest.
