Most guys get receipts and stuff them into their wallet. Over time, they have more and more receipts in there and the wallet becomes over stuffed. Plus, it is embarrassing when it’s time to pay for something and you can’t find your money because there are so many old receipts in there. Once you get home each day, take the 10 extra seconds and pull all the receipts out.
Remember, you are a big boy now. You shouldn’t be paying $12 for a haircut.
First of all, the worst hair cutters work at Supercuts. They just got out of beauty school. All they know how to do is pull of the clippers and buzz you down.
Secondly, a haircut should be a good experience, something that you should look forward too. It is nice relax while getting a long scalp massage when they are washing your hair.
Finally, you get to pick your hair stylist (not like Supercuts). That means you can find the most attractive single girl out there, and be her sugar daddy by tipping her $20 instead of the $5 she normally receives. Book your hair appointment every couple weeks and you will be her best client for years. There will be possible fringe benefits.
How many times have you wanted to whip out a business card for a new client or to impress the club bouncer, but you don’t have any cards left in your wallet? Don’t let this happen to you. Keep a big stack of business cards in a rubber band in your car’s center consol or you’ll always have some. Most people only keep their extra business cards in their office desk and forget to reload their wallet while at work.
If you are at a cocktail party or business event and you know you are going to be exchanging business cards with people, keep them in your front pocket instead of in your wallet. This way, you can quickly exchange cards without pulling out your wallet and searching for the business card wedged in between your insurance card and your license.
If you boss asks you to go off property for lunch or to have drinks after work, you should always go. It is not just that he wants to hang out – he usually has some alternate agenda, like discussing your future with the company or has some advice for you that would be a little inappropriate to tell you at work. Your relationship with your boss is the most important part of getting ahead of your career. If you turn him down once, he probably won’t be asking again.
Your wallet won’t close and it won’t impress anyone, especially if it is all $1s. It does feel good to have cash on you, but in today’s world it is actually a pain in the ass. Every time you use cash you get change. Who wants a pocket of pennies and dimes falling into your car seats or bouncing around in your washer and dryer? Here is a question, if you were walking along a street and you saw a penny on the ground, would you pick it up? If you answered no, like we are sure you did, then why do you keep all these pennies around? It’s a good idea to keep a couple of bucks on your for an emergency, but not everything needs to be paid for in cash. When you go get change, drop it in a container when you get home and it will add up to a decent amount before you know it.
If it is 4am and you are sitting alone watching reruns of the A-Team, go to sleep. Don’t keep yourself up for no reason. It will ruin the next day because you will be sleeping longer. At least put the TV on in your bedroom and lay down as you watch it. You then at least have a chance of falling asleep.
If your buddy tells you he is throwing a party next Friday and you know you aren’t going to make it. Don’t tell your friend “I’ll be there” and then don’t show up. That is just wrong to lead him on. If he really is your friend, tell him the truth and tell him that you appreciate the invitation but you aren’t going to make it because of ___”. He will respect you more for it. Plus, if you are able to sneak away early from your plans and make his party, it will be a nice surprise when you show up.
You boss is going to tell you he needs a report by Friday. Don’t wait until the last minute, stay late and finish the report and give it to him on Thursday. It will really help you boss out and once he goes through it, he might have a few changes to make before he needs to use it. He will view you as dependable, hardworking and part of the team.
Two scenarios to justify this point:
Scenario 1: You and your buddies are at the house watching football all day. You have been betting all day on spreads, coin flips and over/unders. At some point, someone is going to have the great idea of a poker game. Everyone is going to be pumped until you realize that the only deck you have is soaked in beer and missing cards.
Scenario 2: After hanging out at the bar all night you finally convince the girl you have been hitting on all night to round up her friends and head back to your place with you and your boys. Once back at the house everyone is going to want to continue drinking. If you don’t have a full set of cards to kick off the drinking game fiesta then it is going to end up a lame night with forced, awkward conversation between you and some strangers. Here it is written in a simple equation:
