Life Before Noon: Get A Hobby

Posted on May 26th, 2010 by Dan

Have something else besides work.  You will drive yourself nuts if you don’t have an outlet to blow off some steam after work.  Bars are fun, but get expensive after a while plus you don’t want to feel like crap every morning.  Join a recreational league like basketball, softball or kickball.  It will end up being a blast and you will blow off some steam while getting exercise at the same time.  Also, you will be sure to meet some fun people along the way.

Life Before Noon Tip: Get A Haircut Frequently

Posted on May 26th, 2010 by David

Get a haircut every 3 or 4 weeks, not every 2 or 3 months, so you maintain a clean look for work.  Plus, you don’t want it to be so shocking to everyone at work when you get a haircut that you are the topic of conversation at work.  In addition, if you followed our earlier advice, your hair stylist is an attractive young female that enjoys seeing you, so you should want to get your hair cut as often as possible.

Even if you don’t think that you need to do laundry, do it for the sake of guests who may come over.  No one wants to smell your funk when they come over to watch the game or play poker.  Any girl that comes over is not going to want to sleep in a room where your hamper is over-flowing with dirty boxers and the towels in the bathroom have been hanging there for weeks.

Buy white towel instead of a collection of brown/red/green towels.  Towels get pretty nasty.  They get wet and hang there in a humid bathroom (or crumpled on the floor) with bacteria and fungus growing in them.  The normal wash cycle does not get them totally clean.  Have you always wondered why doctors, dentists, chef’s, and lab techs always where white and not some other color robe?  It is because when they wash them, bleach is added to really sanitize them.  Bleach only works with white (because it will kill colors dyes and make fabrics white).  So, when it comes around to washing your towels, you need to get them really clean, which only bleach will do.

A clean car is not only a nice presentation, but it is also a representation of the guy behind the wheel.  With that being said, you can wash your car just as good for $10 as some place that charges $85.  Every now and then it is nice to have someone else do it, but save yourself the money and put 30 minutes into cleaning your car.

Buy plastic utensils and paper plates for use on a daily basis so you don’t have to clean up after yourself.  Only break out the real plates and silverware if you have a date coming over.  When she does visit your pad, be sure to hide your plastic.  She just won’t understand and will think you are a cheapskate. (Unfortunately, I learned this one from experience.)

You will probably realize your sheets need to be washed once you smell them as you enter the room to pass out.  No one wants to sleep in sheets that they know smell of random hookups and month old body odor.  What’s worse is that now you are tired and there is no way you are going to stay up for another hour and a half while the sheets wash and dry.  Having a spare set ready to go will allow you to throw the dirty ones in the wash, put on a fresh set and worry about drying them in the morning.

Take a shower when you get home from the bar or club, otherwise the stank from the bar will really be in your skin and hair.  It’s nice to wake up clean, not smelling of the night before.  When you wake up, your brain won’t remember how wasted you were the night before unless it can find something to associate with, like smell.  This is a crucial step in curing your hangover.  Plus, if you don’t take a shower after you get home, your bed sheets will get nasty and you will have to wash them more frequently.

Even if you only drink beer, try to keep certain liquors on hand at all times.  If people stop by the house you want to make them feel comfortable.  More importantly, if a date comes back to your house and wants to drink to loosen up then you better be sure that you have something she will like.  The two “must-haves” are rum and vodka.  Those two liquors can mix with anything from soda to orange juice and everyone can find something they like, even if it isn’t their favorite.  While you’re at it, be sure to keep inexpensive bottles of red and white wine incase that is beverage of choice for a guest.

If you have hair to gel, then learn to use hair gel in to at least make an attempt at looking good.  You don’t need to spike it all the way up, but the old part-to-the-side just doesn’t do it anymore.  When you get your hair cut, observe what you hair stylist does to finish your hair.  Ask her how to use gel and what she recommends for you.  If you find that hair gel is too gooey for you, try Hair Paste.  It will give you some hold, but it won’t “harden” as much as gel will.
